Extended cookie information
What are cookies?
Cookies are information entered on your browser when you visit a website or use a social network with your PC, smartphone or tablet.
Each cookie contains different data such as: the name of the server it came from, a numerical identifier, etc.
Cookies may remain in the system for the duration of a session (ie until you close the browser) or for longer periods and may contain a unique identification code.
What are cookies for?
Technical cookies
These are used to 1) perform computer authentication, 2) monitor sessions and 3) store specific information about users accessing a web page.
These cookies are often useful because they can make faster browsing and use of the web, because they facilitate some procedures such as when you shop online, when you authenticate restricted access areas or when a website automatically recognizes the language you usually use.
Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies, can be related to technical cookies only if they are used for the purposes of site optimization directly by the owner of the site, which can collect information in aggregate form on the number of users and how they visit the site.
Profiling cookies
These are used to monitor and profile users while browsing, study their movements and habits of web browsing or consumption (what they buy, what they read, etc.), also for the purpose of sending targeted and personalized advertising (so-called Behavioral Advertising).
FOR EXAMPLE: Have you ever visited a site of services, using your webmail or accessing your page on a social network and finding banner ads related to your latest research on the web or the last purchase on the Internet ?
This happens because those web spaces are designed to recognize your PC or another terminal that you use to connect to the web (smartphone, tablet), and possibly direct promotional messages based on your research “profiles” and your use of the Internet.
Third-party cookies
These are cookies from other sites and contained in various elements hosted on the page itself, such as banner ads, images, videos, etc… and are usually used for profiling purposes.
So the cookies that are downloaded on PCs, smartphones and tablets can also be read by other subjects, other than those who manage the web pages you visit.
